Huang Yan; the meticulous, intense, thoughtful Huang Yan, is a major figure in Chinese Contemporary art. His signature technique, the photography of the painting of the human body (frequently his own) with traditional Chinese landscapes and allegorical scenes, has made its mark on world photography over the past decade.

But one of the most interesting aspects of this gifted artist is his ability to move effortlessly across a wide field of media and scale. He does so without sacrificing an almost painful technical and visual perfection. Exhibit A begins its representation of the work of Huang Yan with three highly distinctive editions in mixed media. They consist of a self portrait by the artist with hand applied pochoir, a stunning manipulated landscape of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, and a portrait of chairman Mao with three dragons made by Huang Yan for this image. For his wide range of outstanding work in sculpture, painting, photography and now printmaking, Huang Yan is destined to remain as one of the most important and popular Chinese artists on the international stage.
